Ontario Veterinarians Raise More Than $74,000 for People and Pets in Need
On Saturday, October 3, fifty-one veterinarians and veterinary health professionals from across Ontario cycled from Milton to Guelph and back, raising over $74,000 for the Farley Foundation. The Farley Foundation is a charitable organization that assists seniors, disabled individuals and women at risk of abuse (participating in OVMA's SafePet Program*) with the non-elective veterinary care of their pets.
Riders rode a combined total of 6,120 km during the day-long event. Seventeen riders rode 160 km, thirty-four cycled 100 km, and each cyclist attempted to raise a minimum of $1,000 for the Farley Foundation. This year was the fourth year for the event, but it was the first Ride for Farley to be held in Southern Ontario. Last year, eleven riders rode through Northern Ontario to raise $15,000 for people and pets in need.
"We are so thrilled with the outcome of our first Southern Ontario Ride for Farley," said Dr. Mark Gemmill, President of the Farley Foundation. "Thanks to the support of veterinary clinics across Ontario, their staff and clients, as well as our generous sponsors, this year's Ride for Farley was not only our highest earning ride to date, it was also the single largest fundraising event in the history of the Farley Foundation."
