Ensure your pet isn't stranded at an animal shelter. Microchip your dog or cat-it could mean the difference between life and death. The statistics on lost or "stray" pets are alarming. Shelters report that approximately 60% of dogs and 90% of cats are never reunited with their owners. Don't let your pet become another heartbreaking statistic. Talk to your veterinarian about getting a microchip implanted in your pet. Unlike tattoos and collars, microchips are permanent and cannot be lost. A microchip is a tiny chip the size of a grain of rice. A veterinarian inserts the chip beneath the animal's skin. Each microchip is issued a unique identification number. A special scanner is used to determine if an animal is microchipped. When it is passed over the microchip, the scanner will display the identification number. Using this identification number, animal shelters are able to trace the pet's owners. |
