Soon, armies of wizards and ghosts will be roaming the streets, crying, "Trick or treat!"

Although Halloween is a fun time for us, it can be downright frightening for our pets. By taking a few simple precautions, you will ensure that your pets can cope with this spooky night.

Some pets are upset by the constant chimes from the doorbell. Keep your pet in a quiet area away from the door. This ensures that young visitors aren't frightened by a barking dog. It also ensures that your pet doesn't escape into the night.

Keep your cat indoors for several days before Halloween—especially if you have a black cat. Many animal rescue groups encounter abused felines at Halloween.

If you are taking Rover with you as your children Trick or Treat, ensure the dog is on a leash at all times.

Keep Halloween candy away from your pets. Store treats in a secure place that your pet cannot access. The last thing you want is a disappointed child and a sick pet that needs an emergency visit to the vet!

Following these tips should ensure a safe and happy Halloween for everyone.
