About the Farley Foundation

The Farley Foundation is a registered charity that assists people in need by subsidizing the cost of veterinary care for the pets that mean the world to them.

Established by the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) in 2001, the Foundation assists people in need by subsidizing the cost of necessary (non-elective) veterinary care for the pets that mean the world to them.

The Foundation currently serves only Ontario residents, however, there have been many requests to consider an expansion of the program to assist Canadians across Canada – a request that the Farley Foundation Board of Directors takes seriously but until now has had to decline due to concerns about the financial sustainability of such an endeavour.

The Farley Foundation is generously administered by the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association. This relationship keeps the cost of administering the program to a minimum.

The Foundation relies on donations to be able to provide funding to people and pets in need.

Who provides funding?

The veterinary community across Ontario is extremely supportive of the Farley Foundation. Veterinarians, their staff and veterinary industry members provide a large percentage of the Foundation’s donation base, and provide incredible promotional and awareness support to people and pets in need through the Farley Foundation.

Pet owners across Ontario also provide generous support. Despite the fact that Farley Foundation funding is only delivered in Ontario, Canada, the Foundation is also increasingly receiving support from pet owners across Canada, North America and around the world, thanks in part to the Foundation’s mascot, Farley and his generous creator, Lynn Johnston.

Eligibility criteria apply for all funding recipient categories.

What Percentage of Farley Foundation Donations Are Used to Pay for Veterinary Care for Those in Need?

The Farley Foundation wants donors to know that:

  • The Foundation does not pay any outside organization to raise funds on its behalf. Fundraising is coordinated by staff and volunteers of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA).
  • While the Foundation does incur some costs in conjunction with its fundraising efforts, the vast majority of these costs are paid for by OVMA and corporate sponsors, not donor revenues.
  • Administrative costs for the Foundation are minimal, as it is administered by OVMA.

100% of every dollar that the Foundation has ever issued a tax receipt for has been used to assist pet owners and pets in need.

*OVMA’s SafePet Program is a program which assists women at risk of abuse (and their children) by arranging temporary veterinary care and housing for their pets while the women are in a registered women’s shelter in Ontario. For more details visit, http://www.ovma.org/pet_owners/safepet.html
